Indian Agricultural Research Institute, (Iari) New Delhi Overview
The Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), also known as the Pusa Institute, was founded in 1905 at Pusa (Bihar). Agricultural Research Institute (ARI) was the name of the institute at the time, and it included five departments. The Institute now includes 20 divisions, five multidisciplinary centres in Delhi, eight regional stations, two off-season nurseries, three all-India coordinated research projects with headquarters at IARI, and ten national centres operating under the all-India coordinated research projects.
In 1907, the Bacteriology unit was added. The promotion of scientific disciplines was the fundamental programme of IARI in the 1950s, and it set the foundation for its rapid expansion in the 1960s and 1970s. In 1958, it was designated as a Deemed University. IARI continues to be the major institution for agricultural research, teaching, and extension in the country as the Mother of other ICAR institutes.
