Delhi School of Music, New Delhi Overview
The Delhi Music Society (DMS) is a non-profit organisation. The college is dedicated to promoting and enjoying music. It particularly lays emphasis on western classical music. It was established in 1953-54 under the Societies Registration Act 1860 (Regd. No. S-690). Many notable people have served as office holders and active members of the Society over the years. The Delhi School of Music, founded in 1966 by the Delhi Music Society, is now the capital’s main school for teaching western classical music.
The Society works with organisations such as the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, the India International Centre, the India Habitat Centre, and different foreign missions’ cultural divisions/organizations. It also puts on its own concerts, which it funds and promotes. The Society occasionally organises all-India tours for visiting musicians by collaborating with music organisations in Pune, Mumbai, Goa, Calcutta, and Bangalore.
