It began operations in the capital in 1959 as a constituent college of the University of Delhi and was taken over by the University of Delhi in 1978 as a university-maintained institute.

The institution provides five undergraduate courses in linguistics, history, cultural studies, economics, and business, as well as all of the major divisions of the arts and commerce.
